Tantric lingam massage is one of the most unique, and misunderstood, massage practices in the world. This Tantra healing practice which combines Tantra massage techniques and other traditional Tantra practices does not actually aim for the outcome that one might think.

Introduction to Lingam Massage

Before we dive too deeply, let’s first clarify some things. For those of you who have never heard the word lingam before, let’s start first with what a lingam is.  Lingam is the Sanskrit word for penis and means “wand of healing.” I use the word lingam in my practice as a way to convey the loving intention and purpose behind the lingam massage.  And speaking of purpose, unlike certain forms of ‘happy ending’ massages, the lingam massage is meant to be a healing experience. While it is indeed pleasurable, lingam massages provided by certified and trained practitioners are not intended to be a sexual encounter. The goal of this practice is to aid the recipient in healing and strengthening themselves using Tantric techniques, and it is very good at doing just that.

What Is a Lingam Massage?

Lingam massage is a practice deeply rooted in the core Tantric teachings. It aims to help the receiver open up the experience of sexual pleasure beyond just the physical and into the realm of the spiritual. Through this opening comes the ability to access the healing powers of the energies within us.

The modern-day version of lingam massage is widely credited to the Tantra massage techniques developed in the 1980s by such people as Andres Rothe, Joesph Kramer and others. However, this is a highly debated topic with various groups registering opinions on the subject. Despite the controversy about its origin, the one thing that isn’t up for debate is the life-changing power of the practice.

The Role of Tantra in Lingam Massage

One of the greatest strengths of a lingam massage is that it facilitates genuine healing, growth and more even when used as a form of physical massage. However, when used in combination with other Tantric practices, its effects multiply. One of our favourites to use in conjunction with lingam massage is the Ocean Breath, a yogic breathing method created by Carla Tara and transmitted to Devi Ward Erickson of the Institute of Authentic Tantra Education in 2009. We also find the Orgasmic Awareness Practice or OAP developed by Devi to be incredibly helpful as well.

Combining the use of these and other Tantra methods with manual stimulation of the lingam expands the scope of what can be achieved and allows practitioners the ability to personalize the experience even further.

In addition, this blending of the physical and the spiritual is a wonderful gateway for those wishing to learn more about Tantra, how to last longer during intercourse, and how to achieve a deeper connection with self and partners.

Myths vs. Reality

Overall, lingam massage remains quite misunderstood in modern society. The tendency to view it as a purely sexual practice causes many to miss the fact that certified practitioners who offer this service operate under very strict codes of ethics. It also causes great confusion around the intentions of the practice. This is unfortunate as the intentions of lingam massage are what makes it so different.

Lingam Massage Isn’t Just About Pleasure

Unlike the “happy endings” massage it is often confused with, lingam massage is a healing modality that uses knowledge of science and anatomy to stimulate the nerves of the phallus in specific ways. When combined with other sensory experiences (sights, sounds, smells etc.), this practice relaxes the receiver into a meditative state. From this state, many benefits such as full-body healing, stress relief, improved sexual performance/experience and much more can be accessed.

The ultimate goal of lingam massage is not orgasm but awakening and healing through pleasure.

Healing Through Mindfulness and Intentional Touch

Here at Awaken Your Pleasure, we follow the teachings transmitted to us through our studies of Authentic Tantra®. These teachings guide us in how we approach this practice. Far from the depraved free-for-all most people expect, a lingam massage is a very intentional practice guided by professional practitioners and governed by consent and boundaries above all.

Benefits of Lingam Massage

Some of the biggest benefits of a professional lingam massage are largely unseen and rarely discussed.

It takes years of training to become proficient in performing this technique on others, and the codes of ethics and professional responsibilities add yet another level of complexity to that learning. But it is these pieces that, if properly implemented, allow this technique to achieve incredible results.

As to the results that are possible from lingam massage, we will not say too much, since many of them overlap with general Tantric massage which we covered quite thoroughly in our Guide to Tantra Massage, if you are curious. However, there are some benefits that the practice is uniquely suited to aid with.

Importance of Communication and Intentions

As we’ve mentioned in past blogs, trauma is stored in the body, and we can use body healing techniques like lingam massage to help clients work through the blocks created by that trauma. This is delicate work, which requires great trust between both parties. That trust is bolstered by the systems we have in place to regulate this practice.

One of the biggest of these systems is consent and boundaries. Nothing in a lingam massage session happens that hasn’t been explained and explicitly consented to. As we mentioned above, while this practice is pleasurable, the goal is healing and the decisions about how to help our clients achieve healing are intentional and carefully measured.

Not A Regular Massage

This is what makes lingam massage so very different from all other types of massage. The intentionality and purpose that goes into a session are unrivalled. Painstaking care is put into the direction a session takes while also leaving room to work naturally and fluidly with what is coming up for the recipient in response to the massage. In this way, lingam massage distinguishes itself as a uniquely flexible practice that still maintains boundaries and direction.

Lingam massage is an amazing teaching tool as well. The unique focus on consent, boundaries and the set intention of healing instead of pleasure or release can help clients learn and affirm their own boundaries as they go deeper into the practice.

The Importance of Certification

Here at Awaken Your Pleasure, we work under the one-way touch model. This means that the touch goes only one way, from practitioner to client. We do this not only to abide by our professional obligations as laid out in the Authentic Tantra® code of ethics we referenced above but also because to do otherwise could make the practice less potent. One of the reasons this practice promotes such massive gains in areas such as healing and personal growth is its set intentions. To shift the focus away from healing and into the realm of a sexual encounter would be to take away the core of the practice and diminish its effectiveness.

Lingam massage is a healing modality. Certified practitioners are taught how to work with this practice while maintaining the highest levels of professionalism and boundaries. This means that our clients can work more comfortably with us and receive the full benefits of this amazing practice.
